Each week the Top 13 teams are listed by division and their opponent, when a game has a both teams listed then both teams are listed as a underdog so the winner of the game will be awarded quality win points.  The only reason I don't do more than 13 is due to time restraints. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I will post the comparisons between Preseason and Week 3 positions.

MACattack's Ranking System have the Flyers as a 4 point underdog!

The Rankings work across all 6 divisions.  The quickest way to explain how they work is the team with the higher overall rating would be the favored team in the game.  Quality Win points are awarded to a team that defeats a opponent that's ranked in one of the Top 13 positions, the higher ranked team doesn't collect any points for the game unless they are playing an opponent also ranked in the Top 13, more points are awarded to the underdog if it was an away game.  MACattack's favored team are the teams listed down the left column which are the Top 13 teams in each division.  Success is the team's ability to win against their schedule.  Historical Performance is the teams rating over the past 30 weeks including their coach and returning starters. 

We have added a Power Ranking Report where all divisions are compared together.  There are a few errors with my data entry and I will have to fix them over the next couple weeks.  Having this report I will be able to check margin of victory a lot easier and be able to make minor adjustments to my ranking equation.

Webmasterj (Joe) informed me yesterday that he will be able to format the site to do weekly NFL rankings!  The system will include: Wins, Losses, Historical Performance, Ability to win against Strength of Schedule and an overall Power Rating.

Ability to win against Strength of Schedule is not the same calculation as the traditional strength of schedule used by most polling systems.  A weak team can have the most difficult schedule and go 0-16, but when a great team wins against a strong schedule then greatness is evident.  New England is a great team but has one of the weakest schedules in the league, so it will take them most of the season for the ability to win against their schedule to increase because they are expected to win.

This should be pretty fun to watch this system evolve.  I have 3 years of data entered into my database and we'll see how it goes!

#1 Lakewood St Edward  vs. #15 Newark * I don't think senior players should be able to talk to colleges until after the season is over.  This would have greatly changed the outcome of this game!

#5 Toledo Libbey vs. #8 Chillicothe * Mr Basketball might be from Chillicothe rather than Libbey.  Mr Basketball players take over when the game counts and delivers.  This didn't happen here!

#25 Ottawa-Glandorf vs. Sugarcreek Garaway * Glandorf's players were men against boys!

#1 New Knoxville vs. #2 Worthington Christian * New Knoxville could have played against any team in state!

This year I compiled the information on 9,420 games not counting the final 4 games tomorrow.  I was very lucky to have 2, #1 teams go wire to wire and lottery lucky to have New Knoxville vs. Worthington Christian go preseason #1 and #2 to the Championship game!

Some minor changes have to be made to my ranking system to close the gap where strength of schedule performed better than records.  So I'll tell you how insignificant the change will be.  The win multiplier will drop by 0.1, Strength of Schedule will increase by 0.2, the remaining changes will be almost un-noticeable.

Canton McKinley Bulldogs

A number of coaches are being interviewed and some of the more visible are: Stephen Tutsie @ Warren Cental, Indianapolis,  Parma Normandy's Rich Turner, Ron Johnson @ Middletown, and Art Bortnick @ Cleveland Benedictine to name a few.  I believe if the Bulldogs want to get their program back to being Regional or State finalists they will have to pick Art Bortnick.

Any help with divisional reassignments will be greatly appreciated!  The overall numerical rating is historical driven this week only, every week after will be a combination of weighting, wins, strength of schedule, and historical success.  As with football, my rankings do not attempt to pick a State Champion but to predict the likelihood of the team winning their next game.  Later in the season the rankings can identify "stand out" teams that can go deep into the playoffs or even win it all.  My Team Ohio still organizes the teams by division, conference, mascot, etc so if you see an error or have an update please click on fans@macattacksports.com and we will make the appropriate changes quickly.

As promised (the cool upcoming features), the myTEAMOHIO section has new information for each team. The current OHSAA point totals (AVG-LEVEL1-LEVEL2) are updated now for week 5 and will continue for the entire season.

Also state wide ranking OHSAA numbers for TOTAL AVG and LEVEL 2 are now included. Interesting to see the best Level 2 (secondary) points in the state. Those secondary points are the key to making the playoffs - you know the motto: "The biggest FAN of the teams you defeat is YOU!".
